How to use this converter

Use Unicode for office documents, websites and search. For a legacy publishing workflow, choose Unicode → Kruti Dev 010, copy the result and apply your own licensed Kruti Dev 010 font in the destination app. TXT files use UTF-8; they do not bundle a font or restore Word formatting.

Supports the Kruti Dev 010 map, pre-base ि, reph र्, nukta letters and common conjuncts such as क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ and श्र. Unicode output can be displayed with a Devanagari font such as Mangal already installed on your device.

Conversion limits & mixed text

Kruti Dev 010 only. DevLys and Chanakya are not supported yet; do not select Kruti Dev for those fonts. Plain text loses Word font information, so English and legacy Hindi cannot be reliably distinguished automatically. Historical font variants, broken OCR and rare glyph combinations need review. The ambiguous legacy code Ú is kept and flagged. For mixed output, apply the legacy font only to the Hindi passages, so English remains readable. Conversion does not translate or correct spelling.

Plain text only: rich text, font metadata and document layout are not imported. No font is included or required for Unicode output beyond your device’s normal script support.

Open-source engine & licences

Kruti Dev 010 engine adapted from Indian Language Converter (GPL-2.0 algorithms); local fixes for conjuncts, nukta and bounded reordering. Upstream source. Licence notices and downloadable source.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Convert a Kruti Dev 010 passage before choosing a display font

Changing a font is a separate action from converting legacy character codes. Select only the Kruti Dev 010 passage in mixed text. In this example, ueLrs becomes नमस्ते while the surrounding English, Arabic and Japanese text stays unchanged. Review matras and conjuncts before using a longer passage.

  1. Paste English 123 — ueLrs — العربية 日本語 into Your text.
  2. Choose Kruti Dev 010 → Unicode and Selected passage only under Which text uses the legacy font?.
  3. Select ueLrs and select Convert text. Compare English 123 — नमस्ते — العربية 日本語.
  4. Use Copy result or Download TXT, then select an available Unicode Devanagari display font in your destination editor.

Select only ueLrs in the first line.

English 123 — ueLrs — العربية 日本語
English 123 — नमस्ते — العربية 日本語

Keep in mind

  • Supports Kruti Dev 010, not DevLys or Chanakya. A display font is a separate editor choice.
  • Review matras and conjuncts in longer passages. TXT output does not preserve Word layout.
